As your company grows, the numbers behind it start to carry more weight
You may be hiring employees for the first time.
Or managing payroll for multiple team members.
Or investing in expensive equipment and wondering if cash flow can support it.
And suddenly, the numbers behind the business start guiding bigger decisions.
You’re not just running a business anymore. You’re responsible for employees, their families, and the stability of the company you’re building.
Your business may also be an important part of your own household income and long-term retirement plans.
At this stage, you don’t just want your books to be accurate.
You want to understand what the numbers are actually telling you
You might be asking questions like:
- Are our margins healthy enough to support growth?
- Can I afford to hire another employee?
- Why do expenses feel higher than expected?
- How do I forecast where the business is heading?
- Am I building something financially sustainable?
That’s the moment when business owners realize they need more than basic bookkeeping.
They need someone who can bring rooted structure and clarity to their company’s finances.
Small Business Bookkeeping from an Experienced Accountant

Many businesses hire a bookkeeper simply to record transactions and reconcile accounts.
But as your company grows, bookkeeping becomes much more than a monthly task. You need financial systems that actually help you understand your business.
As a CPA with experience in corporate accounting and finance, I approach bookkeeping differently than many traditional bookkeeping services.
When I review your books, I’m not only looking for whether the numbers balance.
I’m looking for patterns, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve the organization of your financial information.
Sometimes that means cleaning up misclassified transactions in QuickBooks.
Other times, it means restructuring reports so you can finally see what’s happening in your business.
Once your financial systems are organized and reliable, the numbers become a rooted cornerstone for deeper decisions.
You can clearly see:
- Where your margins stand
- How cash flow moves through the business
- How today’s decisions affect the future of your company
That kind of clarity makes it much easier to feel confident about your business’s direction, strategically plan for the future, and provide peace of mind.
What this level of support looks like in practice
“Working with Katie at Rooted Accounting & CFO Solutions has been one of the most important decisions I’ve made as a business owner.
She restructured our QuickBooks from the ground up. What used to feel overwhelming and confusing is now clean, organized, and intuitive. I can actually navigate our financials with confidence. I understand our margins, our cash flow, and how decisions today affect the future.
Beyond clean books, she elevated us to real CFO-level thinking. For the first time, I have real visibility into where our company is headed, not just where it’s been. Now, I have complete confidence in our financial infrastructure. That peace of mind is priceless.
If you are a business owner who wants real financial clarity, not just bookkeeping, I cannot recommend her enough.”

Bookkeeping Support Designed Around Your Business
Every growing business operates a little differently.
Some companies are hiring employees and setting up payroll systems for the first time. Others are managing multiple bank accounts, contractor payments, and increasingly complex reporting.
Because of that, I design bookkeeping services around your business’s needs.
Once I review how your books are currently set up, we can discuss what level of support will help you most.
For many businesses, ongoing bookkeeping support may include:
Regular transaction review and categorization
Transactions are reviewed and categorized in QuickBooks Online to keep your books accurate and up to date.
Management of multiple bank and credit card accounts
As your business grows, financial systems often become more complex. Regular account reconciliation keeps everything organized and reliable.
Payroll system integration and bookkeeping support
Payroll systems such as QuickBooks Payroll, Gusto, or ADP, or Paychex can integrate with QuickBooks Online to record payroll accurately.
Monthly financial reports and summary
You’ll receive regular financial reports, including the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, along with a short summary of key items, changes, and notable trends.
Communication and ongoing support
As questions come up throughout the month, I’m available to help ensure your books stay accurate and organized.
1099 filings and compliance reminders (when applicable)
If you work with contractors, 1099 filings can be prepared as part of your bookkeeping scope, along with reminders about deadlines.

The goal isn’t simply to keep your books clean.
It’s to give you financial systems you can rely on as your business continues to grow.

Bookkeeping Services for Small Businesses FAQs: Working with Rooted Accounting
Rooted Accounting provides small-business bookkeeping, QuickBooks Online cleanup, payroll support, and financial organization for growing women-owned businesses.
Many business owners reach out when their financial systems start feeling harder to manage as the company grows. These FAQs explain how to engage Rooted Accounting’s bookkeeping services, what to expect from working together, and how the process helps bring structure and visibility to your business finances.
What types of businesses does Rooted Accounting usually work with?
Many of my clients are small businesses with growing teams.
These are often women-owned businesses that may now have employees, contractors, multiple accounts, or more complex financial systems. They want their books organized so they can clearly understand how the business is performing and make decisions with more confidence.
What if I’m not sure what kind of bookkeeping help we need yet?
That’s very common.
Many business owners reach out when they know their current setup isn’t providing the visibility they need, but they’re not sure what the next step should be. The first step is reviewing your books and financial systems so I can understand what kind of support would be most helpful.
How do growing businesses usually start bookkeeping services?
Most companies begin with an initial assessment.
The assessment helps identify whether anything needs cleanup, whether reports are structured correctly, and how the current financial systems are working. From there, it becomes much easier to determine which level of ongoing bookkeeping support makes the most sense.
Which accounting platform do you use?
Most of my clients use QuickBooks Online, and it’s the platform I use for my bookkeeping work.
At this time, I don’t work in other accounting systems such as Xero, FreshBooks, or Zoho Books. Specializing in QuickBooks Online allows me to work more efficiently and ensure your books, payroll, and financial reporting are structured correctly.
If your business is already using QuickBooks Online, I can review your current setup, organize your books, and help ensure your financial reports correctly reflect what’s happening in your business.
Can you help if our books need cleanup?
Yes – this is a common reason businesses reach out.
Sometimes books were managed by a previous bookkeeper, an internal team member, or the business owner themselves. If transactions were misclassified or systems became disorganized over time, the first step is to review the books, correct any issues, and restore a clean financial structure. Are your bookkeeping services customized?
Yes.
No two growing businesses have the same needs. Some clients primarily need ongoing bookkeeping and account reconciliation. Others also want payroll support, financial reporting, monthly financial debriefs, or help structuring their financial systems for better visibility.
That’s why my services are customized to support how your business operates.
Can you help with payroll for employees?
Yes, I can help ensure your payroll system works smoothly with your bookkeeping.
For businesses with employees, payroll is often managed through services such as QuickBooks Payroll, Gusto, ADP, Paychex, or another payroll provider. I can help make sure the payroll system is set up correctly and that payroll information flows properly into your QuickBooks Online records.
This includes making sure wages, payroll taxes, and related expenses are recorded accurately in your books so your financial reports reflect the true cost of payroll.
While I support the integration and bookkeeping side of payroll, I do not run payroll or process payroll payments directly.
Do you provide financial reports?
Yes.
Clients receive regular financial reports, including the main financial statements such as the profit and loss statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and other related reports, so they can understand how their business is performing each month. Additionally, businesses benefit from the accompanying financial debrief that highlights trends, changes, and potential areas to watch.
For businesses seeking deeper financial analysis, forecasting, or strategic planning, these services can also be included as part of a higher-level advisory engagement.
Do you work with our CPA or tax preparer?
Yes.
Clean bookkeeping supports accurate tax preparation, and I frequently collaborate with CPAs and other tax professionals to ensure year-end reporting and tax filings go smoothly. I do not provide tax preparation services.
How much do you charge?
Most small businesses benefit from a predictable monthly retainer that includes bookkeeping and ongoing financial reporting, with additional services such as payroll support or budgeting added as needed. Others businesses may instead benefit from an hourly arrangement.
After reviewing your books and learning more about your business, I can estimate how much time and support your company may need. My hourly rate is $100/hr.
Do you meet virtually or in person?
Both options are available to you.
Many clients prefer virtual meetings because they are convenient and flexible. For local clients, meetings can also happen in person in the Portland metro area, including West Linn, Lake Oswego, and nearby communities.
When should a growing business consider bookkeeping support?
Many companies manage their own books in the early stages of the business.
As the company grows, however, bookkeeping can become harder to maintain while managing employees, operations, and client work. That’s often when business owners decide they would benefit from an experienced accountant to support the company’s finances.
How do we get started?
It starts with a free, no-obligation conversation.
